As it is already known, Bakuriani will host FIS Freestyle Ski & Snowboard World Championships in 2023. As a result of this decision, Georgian side is obliged to host the World and European Cups of all (FIS) Freestyle disciplines until 2023.
Ski Cross World Cup test events were held in Bakuriani on 26th, 27th and 28th of February. Qualification was held on February 26th and the finals of the competition were held on February 27th.
28th of February was a special day for both Georgia and the International Ski Federation. Bakuriani hosted the very first Ski Cross Mixed Team event held in terms of World Cup. Each team presented 1 female and 1 male athletes per race in Mixed Team competition. As in the classic ski cross, in Mixed Team event 4 athletes participated simultaneously as well.
51 athletes from 9 different countries (Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Britain, Japan, Switzerland, USA and USA) participated in the ski cross event. In women’s individual competition, the first place was taken by the record holder of the Swiss team, Fanny Smith, while in the men’s competition, the German athlete Florian Wilsmann took the first place.
In Mixed Team event, the first place was again won by Switzerland (Fanny Smith and Jonas Lenherr), the second place was taken by Canada (Courtney Hofos and Chris Bosco), and the third place was taken by Sweden (Sandra Naslund and David Mobärg).
All events were held according to the Covid-19 protocol and regulations released by the International Ski Federation.
